Kardashev scale - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

From the page: "The Kardashev scale is a general method of classifying how technologically advanced a civilization is. It was first proposed in 1964 by the Soviet astronomer Nikolai Kardashev. The scale has three designated categories called Type I, II and III. These are based on the amount of usable energy a civilization has at its disposal, and the degree of space colonization. In general terms, a Type I civilization has achieved mastery of the resources of its home planet, Type II of its solar system, and Type III of its galaxy"

This must be one of the craziest ideas I've ever come across!! It's only as crazy as it is ingenious! Does how the amount of energy a civilization can consume really give a scale for how advanced it is?!

And guess what!..We don't even qualify for Type I yet! in 2010 we will be at 0.72! and it will take us two more decades to get to 0.73! Check out the graph bellow..

I'll be waiting for 2010 to come and we will see what happens ;)

Here's Kardashev's original paper if you care to read it..
